Bad sorts of not fun...

Tomorrow is back to work day for me. This is a good thing as I am starting to have conversations with random inanimate objects around the house, much like Dr. Bunny (who between you and me is not quite all there). Have had my brain in absent work mode for the past two months. I have been off 3 months but the first month I couldn't get my brain to give up work. It wanted to keep checking my work e-mail and driving my fingers to do just that.

This morning though, I woke to the following note in my personal e-mail "Urgent! Wet books in basement Please answer as soon as possible!" Apparently, during the day prior a magical mystical pipe broke around about my parents basement in WA. In WA they have been having chilly temps of like 14 degrees and what not. For me, stuck in the frozen ND, 14 degree temps sound much like heaven! Not to my parents, who just don't get this sort of thing in their area of WA. Needless to say the Washingtonians in that area do not insulate their pipes in the manner that the ND groupies do. Thus the pipe froze and burst.

Since all of my preservation files and books are in the library realm, and I have no intention of visiting the worky world today...not till tomorrow, I have made a vast attempt at assisting my father via phone in the salvaging of family photos and rare books. Using my online sources and vast preservation knowledge, I believe I have been of some assistance from the distance.

It is times like this that remind me that I should be working in Archives rather then out in the front realm of the library.
