Christmas proved to be strange, bizarre, and quiet.
First, Grandpa never showed, he was randomly stuck in Denver, Portland, and Chicago for brief periods of time. We think he is in Chicago, but are not sure. His cell phone is dead, so he could be most anywhere, hopefully someplace warmer!
Second, Nicky and I had head colds. Our brains were oozing everywhere. Nicky found this fun for the first 2 or so days, but after that it was getting a bit old. Basically he stopped laughing after he sneezed or coughed. Both of us appear to be departing the "brain ooze' category adventure. Many people told me..."baby will get sick! It will he horrible!" I was prepared for the worst, but on a whole it was not that bad. He slept through the night till 5am, like usual. He was a little bit fussier then normal but when ones brain is leaking goo for the first like evers! this can be expected. I made his desnotting of his nose an exciting game. He was confused about the saline bottle and still is, as he wants to suck on instead of having is sprayed up his nose. He does not like the spraying up the nose bit, I don't blame him, as mommy does not like either. But with an almost 4th month old baby, one does not have a lot of options when it comes to making things comfortable during a Head Cold Plague. I would excitedly say after sucking out a nasty boogie, look at that Nick, isn't that fantastic and then tell him what a talented little baby he is to give mommy such fine gifts from his nasal cavity. To this I always get a toothless grin, I love this!
Third, the blizzard. Yep, we were stuck in a blizzard. Took us (or daddy) to days to clear the driveway. Uncle Doug showed up for Christmas dinner with Rodney, they did not drive, they hiked like 10+ blocks. Then Uncle Doug came back for his B-day dinner on Saturday. We ate leftovers, the rest of the apple pie. How odd to celebrate in blizzard conditions again. When Uncle Doug was born 31 years ago, Chicago was having a storm of the century. My parents couldn't get the car out of the drive, they finally found a taxi service that would dare to take them to the hospital!
One of the top songs of 1978 was the Bee Gees Stayin' Alive, in honor of Uncle Doug's b-day here are the BEE GEES! (Basically what we did all Christmas by staying inside and going no were...stayin' alive!)
