From China's 3rd century BC Qin Dynasty to the present day, the burning of books has a long history as a tool wielded by authorities both secular and religious, in efforts to suppress dissenting or heretical views that are perceived as posing a threat to the prevailing order.
Keeping up traditions is very important for some, including, particularly Pastor Terry Jones author of Islam is of the Devil. He feels threatened by things he does not understand, so he tosses a few Qur’an on the fire to celebrate "International Burn A Quran Day," on the ninth anniversary of the Sept. 11.
A few years back I remember a lady in church that whined constantly about "them" taking our bibles and burning them. I am still not certain who "them" is but apparently, since someone fears this "burning of the bibles" future prediction we can just do it willy nilly to others. Promoting the banning or burning of any information resources sends us hurtling backwards. I cannot support any of this degenerate behavior. Whether it is Harry Potter or the Qur’an. Anyone that raises a hand against knowledge, someone's right to be, whether it is physically or verbally is an ass. Sure, our founding fathers gave us a document about "freedom of speech." I doubt that document gives us the right to be assholes. I am not saying we should start policing the assholes, just United States Citizens need to be a bit more respectful of their world and those that inhabit it.
Basically, if someone started burning The Bible, I am certain that Pastor Terry Jones will be all offended and have a few words to say about it but it is fine for him to start a whole day around the smoldering the Qur’an's pages. Guess what Jones, you make Angels cry!
Now lets contemplate for a moment: What if the "Higher Power" (no deity defined) put us here to see if we could play well together and we could share our toys. How are we doing?
