Car Fun!

So the kids and like to make games up in the car when we are traveling to and from work, daycare, the store, and so on.  One game we play is "count the red light runners."  If there weren't so many people running red lights, this would be a very drab and boring game.  Of course the number of red light runners is rather enormous in our town.  Now some people enter on a yellow, those don't count.  The ones that do count, are the ones that charge through blatant red lights.  Lights, that are quite solidly red, to the point were the other cars from the other lanes have green lights and are starting to progress across the intersection.  For a brief moment you catch a glimpse of a larger then life vehicle bearing down on you and you realize they are not planning to fucking stop!!!  A slamming on the breaks, a brief moment of swearing under my breath, then I yell something absurd and kid friendly like..."your boiler has burst!" (thanks Thomas the Train for that!)

Since I have children in the car, I generally look both directions before I pull out on any green light now.  Yes, yes, I stop at yellow lights.  Unless vast coatings of ice are about and I know that stopping at the light will cause me to go through it even faster, I will stop.  We on more then one occasion have watched vehicles zoom around us and enter the now, very red light.  Vastly amused, we count their vehicle and then wait for their untimely demise in the intersection.

Ultimately, if I get rear-ended or hit by a red light runner, particularly with the kids in the car, I will  remove that persons spinal column through their oral cavity.  The police would do well in our town to install red light cameras, as that would really boost their incoming cash flow.  This morning, 4 red light runners...fun cakes!
