Frac this...

I am all for regulations on fracking...since I live in the vortex of an oil boom a lot of people have been jumping into big oils pocket.  Since Hydraulic fracturing is how we are gaining access to some of these "previously" inaccessible oil deposits, I suspect an environmental fall-out from it or at least a couple tremors.

Some areas of the country are in desperate need of an intervention...
Salon.com's article Farmers’ sand-frac nightmare is a perfect example of how screwed we are if don't do something quick about this fracking issue.  "It’s impossible to grasp the scope of the devastation from the road, but aerial videos and photographs reveal vast, bleak sandy wastelands punctuated with waste ponds and industrial installations where Wisconsin hills once stood."

Even the NY Times has highlighted Fracking's weak regulations: Regulation Lax as Gas Wells’ Tainted Water Hits Rivers.

"With hydrofracking, a well can produce over a million gallons of wastewater that is often laced with highly corrosive salts, carcinogens like benzene and radioactive elements like radium, all of which can occur naturally thousands of feet underground. Other carcinogenic materials can be added to the wastewater by the chemicals used in the hydrofracking itself.

While the existence of the toxic wastes has been reported, thousands of internal documents obtained by The New York Times from the Environmental Protection Agency, state regulators and drillers show that the dangers to the environment and health are greater than previously understood"

Regretfully, my children and I will eventually live in a "hole" that fracking built.   Better not drink the water!
