Farewell Doug...


It is the sad day in our household; we just found that Douglas Lampson died on his farm outside of Rutland, SD on Jan. 22, 2010.

Though I never met Doug, I have heard much about him from Patrick. Doug was the base player in 3 bands with Patrick. Doug, I never knew you, but your legend will live on our household.

"Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thurs., Jan. 28, for Douglas Lampson, 60, Rutland, who died unexpectedly on Jan. 22, 2010, at his farm east of Rutland. The Rev. Terry Knudson will officiate in the Weiland Funeral Chapel at Madison, and burial will be in Mt. Auburn Cemetery at Colman.

The family will be present at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Weiland Funeral Chapel.

Lampson was born on March 5, 1949, at Flandreau to Lawrence and Vivian (Hanson) Lampson. He grew up on a farm near Rutland and graduated from Rutland High School in 1967. He married Joyce Ingemansen on Aug. 12, 1972, at Nunda. He received his undergraduate degree from Dakota State University and his master's degree from South Dakota State University. He taught English and speech at Deubrook High School before taking a position as psychological examiner at NE Education Services Cooperative in Hayti. He played bass guitar in several area bands, including "Cloud Burst," "Crank" and "Hush."

Survivors include two sons, Nicholas of Brookings, and Nathan of St. Paul, Minn.; his wife, Julie Popham of Harrisburg; a brother, Dennis (Mary) of Woodinville, Wash.; and two sisters, Dorothy (Jim) Gale of Sioux Falls, and Vicki (Jim) Madden of Armstrong, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
