Oxford Comma....

Grammar lovers today were saddened, shocked, and mightily displeased at the news that the PR department of The University of Oxford has decided to drop the comma for which it is so justly famed. As GalleyCat reported, the university's new style guide advises writers, "As a general rule, do not use the serial/Oxford comma: so write 'a, b and c' not 'a, b, and c'." (www.salon.com)

Am not sure if I can handle the above news.  Have spent years sitting in English classes being lectured on comma usage and now Oxford U. hands down new rules?!  Am pretty certain those English teachers were eager to shred my papers with with their red, blue, or green pen marks are now spinning in their graves.  Yep, I spent most of my college years terrified of my English educated instructors.  The ironic bit is, the thing I feared the most, I ended up a marrying :-)
